Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

What happens in a counselling session?

The first one or two sessions are about getting to know you and your goals for therapy.

Following this, we will explore together the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may get in the way. Effective counselling requires a trusting therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist, one where you feel heard, understood and comfortable to sharing your story without judgment.

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on what you would like to work on. Some people find 3-5 sessions is enough, others prefer more long-term therapy. The frequency and number will be discussed in the first session.

Can I choose to only do EMDR?

Yes. We can do EMDR only sessions. As a rough guide, for a single incident trauma I recommend 3–8 sessions. For PTSD from several traumatic events, 8-20 sessions.

How does payment work?

You will receive an email following the first session with bank details. Payment is due within 24 hours after each session.

NDIS clients

Yes I work with NDIS clients and people using self-managed and managed plans. Counselling is usually funded under the item “improved daily living”.

Do you provide rebates for mental health care plans?

Unfortunately, mental health care plans from your GP provide Medicare rebates for psychologists - not counsellors. However, the current Medicare rebate is $93.35, while psychologist fees can be around $300, leaving a gap payment of over $200.

My counselling fees are $100-$130 per session, offering a more affordable option for long term support.

Do you provide Private Health Insurance Rebates

Yes, I am registered with a number of Private Health Insurers, please message me to confirm your one.
